RLYB Gets 1st Win of the Season

In Bemidji Youth Baseball action Thursday night, Red Lake beat Team Subway 5-4 in their last at bat in one of the most exciting games of the season.

RLYB pitcher Austin May started off the 1st inning by striking out the first three batters of the game and finished with 10 Ks in 4 innings pitched.

Team Subway was able to get May for 2 runs in the second inning after back to back walks and a single. Red Lake answered in their half of the second on the wheels of Rekoe Graves who scored on a pass ball to make the score 2-1 in favor of Subway.

After a one out single by Rob Beaulieu III and Austin May’s walk in the third, Pat Tahahwah, who had a huge night, brought them both in with an RBI double to left. Tahahwah later scored on a pass ball to give Red Lake a 4-2 lead.

Subway fought back with one run in the 4th and snuck one in on reliever Tahahwah in the 6th to tie the game at 4-4 with Red Lake yet to bat in their half of the last inning.

Austin May led off the bottom of the 6th inning by surprising everybody in Beltrami County when he layed down a perfectly executed bunt and advanced to third base on a throwing error, putting the winning run within distance for the yound Red Lake team with nobody out and cleanup hitter Tahahwah coming up to bat. Tahahwah was behind in the count early at 0-2 but fought back to fill the count at 3 balls and 2 strikes. With the tension building and a crowd gathering to the most exciting game of the night, Tahahwah lined a bullet down the left field line to score May for Red Lake’s first victory of the season.

Red Lake was led by Tahahwah who went 2 for 3 with two doubles, one run scored and three RBIs, including the game winner and struck out 5 of the 7 hitters he faced in two innings of relief, Austin May who went 1 for 2, two runs scored along with his 10 Ks in his 4 innings of work. Tony Benais and Rob Beaulieu each went 1 for 2, with Beaulieu scoring once.
