South Dakota Man Pleads Guilty to Theft of Government Property (U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota)

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced on June 29, 2011, during a federal court session before U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann, that Thomas Iyarpeya, 20, of Waubay, S.D., pleaded guilty to theft of government property. If convicted, Iyarpeya faces penalties of up to 10 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.

North Dakota Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Child Abuse (U.S. Attorney for the District of North Dakota)

U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced on June 28, 2011, that Gabriel L. Martin, 29, of Fort Yates, N.D., was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Daniel L. Hovland, during a federal court session, on a charge of child abuse in Indian Country. Martin was sentenced to 10 years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Martin was also ordered to pay restitution of $1298.52 and a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim's Fund.

North Dakota Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Abuse (U.S. Attorney for the District of North Dakota)

U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced, during a federal court session on June 28, 2011, that Jeffrey D. White Twin, 19, of Fort Yates, N.D., pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual abuse. In October 2010, White Twin engaged in a sexual act with a juvenile victim who was physically incapable of declining participation in, and communicating an unwillingness to engage in, that sexual act. The charge of sexual abuse carries a maximum penalty of life in federal prison and a fine of $250,000.

Arizona Man Convicted of Multiple Counts Involving the Sexual Abuse of Minors (U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona)

U.S. Attorney Dennis K. Burke announced, during a federal court session before U.S. District Court Judge Paul G. Rosenblatt on June 28, 2011, that Samuel James Seymour, 50, of Whiteriver, Ariz., was found guilty of two counts aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, attempted aggravated sexual abuse of a minor, aggravated sexual abuse, sexual abuse of a minor and abusive sexual contact with a minor.

North Dakota Man Sentenced for Stealing Drugs (U.S. Attorney for the District of North Dakota)

U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced on June 28, 2011, that Timothy J. Davis Jr., 28, of Mandan, N.D., was sentenced during a federal court session before U.S. District Court Judge Daniel L. Hovland on charges of acquisition of a controlled substance by misrepresentation and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. From February 2009 until March 21, 2010, Davis worked as a pharmacy technician for Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Facility, a facility operated by Indian Health Service in Belcourt, N.D. While employed, Davis stole in excess of 48,000 tablets of hydrocodone. Davis received credit for one day in custody and was sentenced to three years of supervised release.

Arizona Man Charged in Navajo Nation Police Officer Murder (U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona)

U.S. Attorney Dennis K. Burke announced on June 28, 2011, that Victor Bigman, 48, of Kaibeto, Ariz., was charged with first degree murder in the death of Navajo Nation Department of Public Safety Sergeant Darrell Curley, who was killed in the line of duty. If convicted, Bigman faces a maximum penalty of death or life in prison, a $250,000 fine or both.

New Mexico Man Pleads Guilty to Second Degree Murder (U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico)

U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales announced on June 27, 2011, that Gary Redhorse John Begay, a 25-year-old enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, entered a guilty plea, during a federal court session in Albuquerque, N.M., to a second degree murder charge. Begay pleaded guilty to shooting Allen Ashike and causing his death on Dec. 17, 2010. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Begay will be sentenced to 14 years in prison, to be followed by not more than five years of supervised release.

North Dakota Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Officers (U.S. Attorney for the District of North Dakota)

U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced on June 27, 2011, that James Yellow Wolf, 41, of Mandaree, N.D., pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting and resisting a federal officer. Each charge of assaulting and resisting a federal officer carries a maximum penalty of eight years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing for Yellow Wolf has been scheduled for Sept. 26, 2011, in U.S. District Court in Minot, N.D.

North Dakota Woman Pleads Guilty to Federal Drug Charges (U.S. Attorney for the District of North Dakota)

U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced on June 27, 2011, that Melissa Ann Skadsem of Devils Lake, N.D., pleaded guilty before U.S. District Court Judge Ralph R. Erickson to two charges of distribution of a controlled substance. Skadsem, 25, pleaded guilty to selling a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine, and 12 tablets of methadone, on Jan. 14, 2010. Skadsem also pleaded guilty to selling a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine on Jan. 26, 2010. Both incidents occurred on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation. Each charge of distribution of a controlled substance carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

Montana Man Pleads Guilty to Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana)

U.S. Attorney Michael W. Cotter announced on June 24, 2011, during a federal court session in Billings, Mont., before Senior U.S. District Judge Jack D. Shanstrom, that Lyle Lamar Takes Gun, 34, pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. His sentencing has been set for Sept. 21, 2011. Takes Gun faces possible penalties of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.

Montana Man Sentenced for Domestic Assault (U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana)

U.S. Attorney Michael W. Cotter announced on June 24, 2011, during a federal court session in Billings, Mont., before Senior U.S. District Judge Jack D. Shanstrom, that Gilbert Darwin Left Hand, 27, of Crow Agency, Mont., appeared for sentencing. Left Hand was sentenced, in connection with his guilty plea to domestic assault, to 41 months in prison a $100 special assessment fine and three years of supervised release.

Montana Woman Sentenced for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine (U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana)

U.S. Attorney Michael W. Cotter announced on June 24, 2011, during a federal court session in Billings, Mont., before Senior U.S. District Judge Jack D. Shanstrom, that Joy Crabtree Pigman, 58, of Billings, Mont., appeared for sentencing. Pigman was sentenced, in connection with her guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, to 70 months in prison a $100 special assessment fine and five years of supervised release.

Montana Man Charged with Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine (U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana)

U.S. Attorney Michael W. Cotter announced on June 24, 2011, during a federal court session in Billings, Mont., before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn S. Ostby, that Raul M. Garcia, 40, of Hardin, Mont., was charged with conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. If convicted, Garcia faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and could be sentenced to life, a $4 million fine and at least five years of supervised release.

Montana Woman Convicted of Theft from an Indian Tribal Organiztion (U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana)

U.S. Attorney Michael W. Cotter announced on June 24, 2011, that Florence A. White Eagle, 63, of Poplar, Mont., was found guilty of a count of conspiracy, theft from an Indian tribal organization, bribery, concealment of public corruption, engaging in public acts affecting a personal financial interest, and of misprision of a felony. White Eagle's sentencing has been set for Oct. 27, 2011.

South Dakota Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Conduct (U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota)

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced on June, 24, 2011, that Jefferson Swallow, 20, of Porcupine, S.D., appeared before US District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on June 24, 2011, and pleaded guilty to a charge of Abusive Sexual Contact. If convicted, he faces a possible maximum penalty upon conviction of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Between May 2009 and September 2009, Swallow engaged in sexual contact with a child under the age of 12. A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for September 19, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the US Marshal pending sentencing.

Montana Men Charged with Illegally Trafficking in Eagle and Migratory Bird Remains (U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana)

U.S. Attorney Michael W. Cotter announced on June 24, 2011, the arrests of Harvey Allen Hugs, 47, of Hardin, Mont., Marc J. Little Light, 41, of Crow Agency, Mont., and Gilbert George Walks Jr., 48, of Crow Agency, following the conclusion of "Operation Rolling Thunder", a multi-year investigation conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service into the illegal trafficking of eagle and migratory bird feathers and remains.

Michigan Man Sentenced for Domestic Assault (U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, Northern Division)

U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced on June 24, 2011, that Nicholas James Sayles, 29, of Kincheloe, Mich., a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, was sentenced to 35 months in federal prison for domestic assault by a habitual offender. In addition to the prison term, U.S. District Judge R. Allan Edgar ordered Sayles to serve three years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment.

South Dakota Man Convicted of Sexual Abuse (U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota)

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced on June 23, 2011, that Leo Vaillarreal was convicted on one count of aggravated sexual abuse and one count of sexual abuse. The charges relate to incidents occurring in March 2010 when Villarreal sexually assaulted a child under the age of 16 and an adult woman. The maximum penalty upon conviction of each count is any term of years up to life in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.

Montana Man Sentenced for Abusive Sexual Contact (U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana)

U.S. Attorney Michael W. Cotter announced on June 23, 2011, that Dennis Salois, 45, was sentenced to 168 months in prison, a special assessment of $200 and supervised release for life. Salois was sentenced in connection with his guilty plea to abusive sexual contact.

New York Man Sentenced for Being a Felon in Possession of Firearms (U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York)

U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian announced on June 23, 2011, during a federal court session before U.S. District Court Judge David Hurd, that Victor J. Lazore, 25, of Hogansburg, N.Y., was sentenced in connection with his guilty plea to being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition in violation of federal law. Lazore was sentenced to seven months in prison and three years of supervised release.

South Dakota Man Pleads Guilty to Misprision of a Felony (U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota)

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced on June 22, 2011, during a federal court session before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange, that Oscar Whiteman, 23, of Eagle Butte, S.D., pleaded guilty to misprision of a felony. The charge relates to Whiteman's failure to report the crime of assault with a dangerous weapon when Ronald Parker shot a man on March 19, 2011. The maximum penalty upon conviction is three years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both; one year of supervised release; and a $100 special assessment.

Arizona Navajo Man Convicted of Assault and Firearms Charges (U.S. Attorney for the District of New Mexico)

U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales announced on June 22, 2011, that a federal jury sitting in Santa Fe, N.M., convicted William Belin, 57, of assault and firearms offenses after a three-day trial. Belin was convicted of assault with intent to commit murder; assault with a dangerous weapon; assault resulting in serious bodily injury; and using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.

Montana Woman Sentenced for Drug Trafficking (U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana)

U.S. Attorney Michael W. Cotter announced on June 22, 2011, that Danetta Old Elk, 31, was sentenced to 97 months in prison, a special assessment of $100 and five years of supervised release. Old Elk was sentenced in connection with her guilty plea to drug trafficking.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon announced on June 22, 2011, that Gerald Roubideaux, 20, of Cannon Ball, N.D., pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual abuse of a minor. Roubideaux admitted to engaging in a sexual act with a juvenile sometime in July 2009. The charge of sexual abuse of a minor carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced on June 21, 2011, during a federal court session before U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange, that Kristen Traversie, 20, of Mission, S.D., pleaded guilty to bank embezzlement. If convicted, Traversie faces penalties of up to 30 years in prison, a $1 million fine, or both; five years of supervised release; and a special assessment of $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund. Sentencing has been set for Sept. 11, 2011.

South Dakota Man Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of a Minor (U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota)

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced on June 20, 2011, during a federal court session before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, that Wilbur Toledo Flute, 37, of Oglala, S.D. was sentenced in connection with his guilty plea of sexual abuse of a minor. Flute was sentenced to 18 months in prison and five years of supervised release. Flute was also ordered to pay a $100 victim assessment.

Wyoming Woman Sentenced for Criminally Negligent Homicide (U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming)

U.S. Attorney Christopher A. Crofts announced on June 29, 2011, during a federal court session before Magistrate Judge Richard G. Gist, that Jamie Chippewa, a 25-year-old enrolled Chippewa-Cree tribal member was sentenced for criminally negligent homicide stemming from a two-vehicle crash on June 30, 2009. Chippewa was sentenced to two years of supervised probation with the first six months of her probation served in home confinement through the location monitoring program. Chippewa was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $19,216.72 and a $25 special assessment.

Michigan Man Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Abusive Sexual Assault (U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan)

U.S. Attorney Donald A. Davis announced during a federal court session on June 28, 2011, that Christopher Frazier, 39, of Escanaba, Mich. was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Frazier was sentenced in connection with his conviction for the sexual assault of three minor children on the Bay Mills Indian Community Reservation.
