Mabel Kingbird

Mabel May Kingbird, 65, of, Red Lake, MN died at the Red Lake Hospital in Red Lake, MN on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Traditional Indian Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Little Rock Community Center in, Little Rock, MN, with spiritual leader, Greg Kingbird and the Mahnomen Creek Singers. A wake will begin on Thursday at the Little Rock Community Center and will continue until the time of the funeral. Traditional burial will be St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Red Lake, MN. Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck assisted the family with arrangements.

Active pallbearers will be Jim Flute, Sheldon Hill, Charles May, Darrell Kingbird, Jeff Iceman, and Elvis Goodwin, with Jim King, Sr. as alternate

Honorary pallbearers will be Margaret Sayers, Jan Lussier, Brenda May, Doris Kingbird, Laura Robinson and Rose Goodwin.

She was born on November 22, 1945, the daughter of Rose and John Hill. She married Lyman Kingbird on September 25, 1991. She enjoyed bead working, powwows, casinos and bingo. She collected many earrings and native knickknacks. Mabel helped many people in her lifetime. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She was well known for her Indian tacos and her husband, Lyman’s, fry bread.

She is survived by; husband, Lyman Kingbird; brother, William Hill; sisters, Gladys Saragosa, Rosalie Hill and Delores Hill; son, Merwin Hill; daughters, Miranda Flute, Muriel Thunder, and April Hill; step-daughter, Laura Robinson; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; aunt, Mary Sayers; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rose Hill; brothers, Frank and George Hill; and sister, Frances Hill
