Woman found dead from gunshot wound in Cass Lake

A 22-year-old woman was found dead in the Cass Lake area early Sunday morning, apparently as the result of a gunshot wound. After receiving a report of a 3:16 a.m. shot fired, Cass County authorities responded to the crime scene.

A 27-year-old Cass Lake man subsequently was taken into custody by Leech Lake Tribal Officers for his suspected involvement in the shooting. The man was detained in the Cass County Jail Sunday, awaiting formal charges.

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch said an investigation remains in progress, with an autopsy pending.

Authorities were withholding the identity of the victim, pending notification of family members.
