What if you could personally participate in research that can ultimately lead to the elimination of cancer as a major health problem for future generations? What if you could make it so that just one family never has to hear the words, "You have cancer?"

This year, Bemidji and the surrounding areas have a historic opportunity to FIGHT BACK against cancer. The Beltrami County Relay for Life (July 23 at the Sanford Center) will be hosting an enrollment for the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). By joining CPS-3, you can help us understand how to prevent cancer, which will save lives and give people more of their most precious resource: time.

The American Cancer Society is recruiting men and woman at select locations across the United States for CPS-3. Individuals are eligible to participate if they are willing to make a long-term commitment to the study by filling out questionnaires periodically, are between the ages of 30 and 65, and have never been diagnoses with cancer (not including basal or squamous cell skin cancer).

Phase 1 of CPS-3 involves enrolling study participants at the Relay for Life of Beltrami County, July 23, 2011 at the Sanford Center, Bemidji, MN. Enrollment times are 4pm-8pm. At this time you will fill out a brief health questionnaire, take a confidential waist measurement and provide a ONE TIME blood draw (approximately 7 tsp total).

Phase 2 of CPS-3 is completed at your home the following week when you fill out the more detailed questionnaire that will be mailed to you. You will mail the completed document to the American Cancer Society and once they have received your questionnaire you will be enrolled in CPS-3 and will be fighting back to find ways to prevent cancer!

The study will take place over 20-30 years and the questionnaires that you will be asked to fill out periodically will take 30-45 minutes of your time. Over the course of the study that will be approximately 8 hours of your life--less time spent at the Relay for Life and less time than the average work day!
