Redby Holds its 2nd Annual Spring Fling

The 2ND Annual Spring Fling was held on Saturday, June 4th at the Art Thunder Memorial Park in Redby, MN with 356 people registering for games and prizes. BBQ Rib Cook-off contestants arrived at the park at 10 a.m. to start up the grills and prepare their own home made BBQ sauce.

The day was filled with activities such as 3-legged races, big-foot race, frisbee toss, and a kiddie’s duck pond for toddlers. The bouncy house was a hit with kids lining up and waiting patiently for their turn as Representative Toady Thunder manned the door and timer. We would like to say Miigwech to Chairman Jourdain and his assistants for holding the basketball contests for boys & girls in different age categories.

BBQ Rib Contest winners were Shelly May, 1st Place; Trudy Kingbird, 2nd Place; Rusty Donnell, 3rd Place; and Mary Charnoski, 4th Place.

Community members who gave up their personal time to volunteer in Redby during 2010 were recognized by Red Lake Project Safe Neighborhoods with a Community Leadership Certificate. They included: Nellie Charnoski, Amanda Charnoski, Ashlyn Charnoski, Angela Charnoski, Michael Stillday, Barbara Garrigan-Stillday, Al Pemberton, Elsie Strong, Jan Thunder, Toady Thunder, Jeanne Donnell, Herman Donnell, Darlene “Jo-jo” Thunder, and Joe Thunder.

Redby Board/PSN Team presented Red Lake Law Enforcement with an “Above & Beyond” Certificate for always being available to grill at our events, donating hotdogs, hamburgers, etc. and attending meetings when they can.

There are just a handful of community members, they work tirelessly when planning and organizing these community events. Their goal is to bring neighbors and friends together in a positive way to have fun, eat, visit, and meet new people in their efforts to reduce crime. By getting to know each other people begin to watch out for each other.

At times community members will attend the meetings and share great ideas for activities or events in their district. Volunteers are needed and always welcome. Please contact one of the board members if you would like to volunteer or call Alice at 679-3553 and she will pass along your information.

The Redby Board, PSN Team, and Redby Community Patrol meeting & potluck dinner are held the first Monday of each month at the Redby Community Center @ 5:30 p.m. Signs are usually posted.

Chi-Miigwech to those of you that participant and helped to make the 2nd Annual Spring Fling another huge success!!
