Cass Lake-Bena's Wind ties for 15th at state golf tournament

Cody Wind of Cass Lake-Bena finished in a tie for 15th place at the state Class A boys golf tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Course near Becker which concluded Thursday.

Wind shot 78 during Wednesday’s first round and followed that score with Thursday’s 82. His 36-hole total of 160 was good for a 15th-place tie with Adam Nickel of Springfield.

Matt Chalberg of Trinity was the Class A medalist as the senior shot 74-72-146. Aaron Forgaard of Faribault-BA was second with a 149.

Randhal Johnson of Cass Lake-Bena finished in a tie for 58th with scores of 89-90-179. Nick Liapis of Blackduck finished 68th. He opened his meet with Wednesday’s 100 but shaved 17 shots off that total on Thursday and finished 100-83-183.

Corey Beaulieu of Red Lake also competed at the state meet and the sophomore shot 95-93-188 and placed 72nd.

In the Class AA meet Wednesday and Thursday at Sand Creek near Jordan Bagley’s Aaron Leintz placed 59th. He shot 78 in his opening round and followed that with Thursday’s 85 for a 36-hole total of 163.

Wednesday at Bunker Hills Bemidji’s Meg Phelps finished 44th in the Class AAA girls meet. Phelps had rounds of 90-87-177.
