RLYB Loses a Heartbreaker in Extra Frames

In Bemidji Youth Baseball action Tuesday, Red Lake Youth Baseball led early only to fall to Team Subway in 8 innings in one of the most exciting games of the season, which was witnessed by a large group of Red Lake fans who made the trip.

Rob Beaulieu started the offense for Red Lake with a 1st inning single and scored on Austin May’s double to bring in the first run of the game. May was then brought in by Pat Tahahwah to give RLYB a quick 2-0 lead.

Daniel Diaz started the 2nd inning with a lead off homerun to dead center field, the first of his career, to make the lead 3-0.

In the 3rd, Tom May, Jr. brought in Austin May with an RBI single and then scored along with Pat Tahahwah on a Daniel Diaz double to left, giving Red Lake a 6-0 lead.

But Team Subway, led by Kaleb “KP” Pemberton’s 2 RBI triple, fought back for 5 runs in their half of the third and tied up the game in the fourth making the score 6-6 after four.

The tie lasted until the 8th when Team Subway scored the winning run on a fielder’s choice with 2 outs, bringing an end to one of the most exciting games of the season.

Red Lake was led by Rob Beaulieu who was 2 for 3 while scoring once, Austin May 2 for 4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and 7 strikeouts in 3 innings pitched. Also chipping in offensively was Daniel Diaz, who went 2 for 4 with his first career homerun, a double and 3 RBIs. Pat Tahahwah kept his team in the game by only giving up 1 run in 4 innings of relief where he struck out 8 batters while going 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Tony Benais also went 1 for 3 in the effort.

The team was coached by Alex English and Jon Roberts.
