Weather holds for DARE Night at Bemidji Speedway

Dare officer Kimberly Wood and patrol officer Robert McClain joined all the drivers on the front straight during intermission of DARE “Say No To Drugs” night at Bemidji Speedway Sunday night. The officers and drivers met with the kids and fans signing autographs and handing out photos.

Great track conditions, a great field of cars and smiling faces could be seen around the quarter-mile oval and grandstand as a slight sprinkle disapated and sunny skies prevailed.

The Midwest Modifieds were first on track for their feature with Brandon Bahr on the pole and Darrin Lawler to his right. But following a restart Don Smith began to make his assault on the leaders. Eventually Smith made a pass on the back straight to take the lead and quickly pulled away for the win. He was followed across the finish line by Adam Johnson, Skyler Smith, Doyle Erickson and Nick Bruder.

The Mod Fours drove on track led by Nathan Higginbothem and Tonja Stranger. Stranger took the early lead followed by Fran Hauber, Higgenbotham and Conrad Schwinn after a lap but Schwinn raced high around several cars into second and then grabbed the lead from Hauber. Schwinn held his line and the lead to pick up his second feature of the season at Bemidji. Dean Larson took second with Hauber, Kellen, and Mike Margl trailing.

In the Bemidji Pure Stocks four different leaders made for a very entertaining race with Corey Peterson leading first, Bill Chaboyea followed into first, then it was Chad Puschinsky before giving up the lead to Joel Harvey who won the race. Puschinsky, Wade Schmidt, Chaboyea and Bill Beaulieu held the top five positions.

The Mini Stock feature was won with a first lap pass from last to first by Billy Smith. Starting in the last row Smith charged through traffic to take the lead on the first lap and stayed out front to win his second feature of the year. Andy Swartz, Becky Barrett, Zach Peterson and Ev Barrett made up the top five.

A nice field of Super Stocks filed on track for their feature led by Gary Nelson Jr. Nelson took the lead at the green flag, maintained it through a restart and widened it down the stretch.

The win was Nelson’s first of the season. Tyler Kintner, Dalton Carlson, Brett Schmidt and Bobby Carlson made up the top five finishers.

Joe Doti picked up his second win of the year in the Bemidji Hornet class with Andrew Hanson, Jordan Thayer, Weston Ramsrud and JasonBush trailing.
