Joan Gehlert

Joan Gelhert, 77, of Kelliher, Minnesota, died Thursday afternoon, June 9, 2011 at the Nielson Place in Bemidji, Minnesota. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kelliher, Minnesota, with Rev. Dan Heath, officiating. The visitation will held at the Cease Funeral Home in Blackduck on Monday from 6 - 8:00 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, and also for an hour before the services at the church. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Kelliher, Minnesota.

Active pallbearers will be all of Joan’s Grandchildren.

She was born on September 25, 1933, at Red Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Alec and Julia (Blakely) Everwind. She attended School in Red Lake and graduated from Walker (MN) High School. She then worked at the Nursing Home in Lake Julia and later at the Kelliher Good Samaritan Center. Joan married Ernest Gehlert on August 9, 1958 at the Waubun Chapel in Ponemah, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Kelliher. She was very active in the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family, and was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She has resided at the Good Samaritan Center – Blackduck for the last several years.

She is survived by; 2 Daughters, Ramona (Michael Victor) Gehlert of Kelliher, MN, and Julie (Michael) Briggs, currently serving in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Maryland; 4 Sons, Lee “Buzz” Gehlert of Kelliher, Edward (Dawn) Gehlert of Kelliher, Michael (Lisa) Burns of Hollister, CA, and Quentin Burns of Kelliher; 12 Grandchildren, Edward Dreher Jr., Julian (Kuna) Dreher, Travis Dreher, Alex Gehlert, Alisha Gehlert, Nicole Briggs, Breanna Briggs, Gavin Gehlert, Brock Gehlert-Decent, Sean Burns, Taylor Burns and Kelsey Burns; and 3 Great-Grandchildren, Michael, Vanessa and Keegan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest in 1998; her sister, Isabelle Burns; her niece, Elaine Burns, and nephew, Edward Burns.
