Charles Prentice Sr.

Charles William Prentice, (Naazhike-Bines) age 57, of Red Lake, Minn., died Monday, June 6, 2011 at the Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, N.D.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, June 11, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Red Lake, Minn. with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating. A Wake will begin at 5:00 PM, Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the Little Rock Community Center. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bemidji, Minn.

Honorary bearers will be Burt Redeagle, Herb Thunder, Bill McNeal, Wally Holstein, Roland (Babe Joe) Roy, Shawn Martin, Louie Deegan, Sheldon Brown, Mike Cobenais, Herman Donnell, Julius (Toady) Thunder, Mike Loud, Tom (Jambi) Westbrook and Arlen “Bushman” Roberts.

Casket bearers will be Chad Prentice, Rob White, Rod Prentice, Wilbert Maxwell, Roger White Jr., Charles Martin Jr. and Ray Charnoski and Albert (Wee) Charnoski. Alternate: Keith M. Beaulieu.

Charles William Prentice was born April 8, 1954 in Red Lake, Minn. to Paul and Marian (Needham) Prentice. He grew up in Red Lake but attended college prep-school in Vermont before graduating from Red Lake High School. He then attended NEI College of Technology in Minneapolis, Minn. Charlie stayed in the Minneapolis area and worked for Rodgers Cable System as an electronic technician. He moved back home where he met and then married Donna Martin on June 5, 1993. He began his career in the Red Lake Gaming Enterprises as an electronics technician in Warroad, Minn. He was promoted to Thief River Falls to become general manager and he eventually attained the position of Chief Operating Officer of Red Lake Gaming. He remained in gaming until 2007. Charles enjoyed riding his Harley, watching his grandson’s basketball games and traveling to their tournaments, watching sports, listening to music and spending time with family and friends. His other enjoyment was making home improvements and sitting on his deck.

He is survived by his wife Donna Prentice of Red Lake, Minn .; children, Charity (Brent) Prentice Pemberton of Red Lake, Minn., Christie (Jamie) Prentice of Redby, Minn., Paula (Keith) Prentice of Red Lake, Minn., Charles (Showy) Prentice Jr. of Red Lake, Minn., step-children that he helped raise, Jeremy (Dawn) Martin Sr. of Red Lake, Minn., Michael (Paula) Martin of Red Lake, Minn., Twila Wilson of Walker, Minn., Darrell Wilson Jr. of Duluth, Minn. and special grandson, Jeremy “Sonny” Martin Jr. of Red Lake, Minn .; 20 grandkids; 1 great-grandson; mother, Marian Prentice of Redby, Minn .; sisters, Trisha Prentice of Redby, Minn., Della Prentice of Redby, Minn., Barbara (Jambi) Westbrook of Redby, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his father.

The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers.
