Primary Function:

Provide leadership on the creation and maintenance of standardized accounting practices throughout the Red Lake Band family of companies. Assist the CEO, Advisory Board and others in making educated financial decisions impacting the companies. Exempt position, reporting to Red Lake Business Advisory Board CEO.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties:

• Create/prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports as required by management and regulatory agencies in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

• Ensure the ongoing integrity of the financial statements for the Red Lake Band family of companies. Enforce and/or implement the financial policies of the organization.

• Create/prepare, or direct the creation/preparation of, reports summarizing and forecasting business activity and financial performance in the areas of income, expense, and earnings, based in past, present, and future operations for the Red Lake Band family of companies.

• Prepare or review job cost reporting ensuring proper matching of revenue and job cost between periods.

• Suggest and implement methods to improve fiscal operations, processes, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers using human and automated resources

• Assist executive staff with preparation of forecasts, plans, and budgets.

• Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the accounting departments

• Assist with the financial audit of the Red Lake Band family of companies.

• Communicate clearly and directly with employees regarding expectations concerning performance, productivity, and accountability.

• Develop employees for succession planning.

Qualifications:

• Manage activities for (0-3) subordinates as indicated on the Accounting Department organizational chart

• Prepare in a clear, accurate, and timely manner, employee performance appraisals, determine appropriate merit increases, and set effective goals for subordinates subject to management’s approval

• Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

• Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.

• Must have ability to work with mathematical concepts and concepts such as probability, statistical inference, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. Must be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

• Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Must be able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

• Maintains a valid Driver’s License. CPA, CMA, or CIA is a plus

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance, and five or more years related experience.

Must be able to create, maintain and use/understand spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office applications. Experience with Great Plains and/or similar accounting software is required.
