One Big Inning Too Much for RLYB

In Bemidji Youth Senior League Thursday evening, Red Lake took an early lead on Team Verizon in the first two innings and led 3-2 courtesy of the bats of Jaden Wood and Pat Tahahwah. Red Lake’s opponents eventually caught on to the pitching of Tahahwah and exploded for 7 runs and the gap was too much to overcome despite a group of Red Lake fans who made the trip to support the team.

Jaden Wood came in to relieve Tahahwah and was able to silence Verizon’s bats by striking out 8 in three innings of relief.

Red Laker Mike Roberts pitched the last 3 innings for Team Verizon, striking out 5, with his only blemish in relief being a triple by Wood.

The final score was Verizon 11, Red Lake 5.

Red Lake offense was led by lead off man Jaden Wood, who went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and a triple in the last inning and just missed a bases loaded extra base hit early in the contest thanks to some terrific defense in center field. Pat Tahahwah chipped in with an RBI single while going 2 for 3 and Isaac Nabors was 1 for 3.

The 0-3 Red Lake team will play Knights of Columbus on June 7th in search of their first victory of the season.

For those interested in playing or volunteering as a coach, practice will be Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays at the Red Lake ball fields. Jessica Roberts will have answers to any questions at the Red Lake Nation Boys & Girls Club at 218-679-2556.

Red Lake Youth Baseball would like to thank Doug, Deb, and Mark at The Redby Garage and The Other Store for providing pizzas and helping with the cost of fuel expenses, Michael F. Beaulieu for the generous donation for beverages for the team, and Tom Barrett and his staff at Red Chemical Health Programs for providing transportation.
