Drive-by shootings, arson reported in Red Lake communities

At least four residences and one business were struck by gunfire this week in drive-by shootings being investigated by the Red Lake Department of Public Safety.

According to a press release:

The drive-by shootings were reported on two evenings – May 30 and June 1 – in two different communities. The first call came in at 11:21 p.m.

Three of the residences struck were occupied at the time of the shootings. The business also was unoccupied.

One residence, which was vacant, also was subjected to arson.

No one was injured in the incidents.

Red Lake investigators and officers located a suspect vehicle, suspect weapon and arrested six suspects. They remain in custody awaiting tribal charges. Federal charges also are possible.

Investigators do not believe the crimes were random.

The case remains under instigation by Red Lake, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the State Fire Marshal.
