Beltrami County deputy injured as suspect tries to flee

A deputy with the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was injured Monday after he was dragged about 100 yards by a male suspect attempting to flee from the scene.

According to a Sherriff’s Office report:

The deputy at 1:18 a.m. Monday on Mokros Lane Northeast had stopped and arrested a female driver on suspicion of third-degree burglary, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and an outstanding warrant.

The passenger then took control of the vehicle and attempted to flee from the scene.

The deputy was dragged about 100 yards as the suspect fled.

The suspect, who has not been named pending formal changes, also hit the deputy several times with a closed fist.

The deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including abrasions to his legs and bruising to his forehead and left eye area.

The suspect was in custody Tuesday in the Beltrami County Jail.
