RLYB Falls Short in Season Opener

In Bemidji Youth Baseball action Thursday night, the Red Lake Nation Youth Baseball team was involved in a slugfest with Team Subway. Subway started off the 1st inning by getting Patrick Tahahwah, Jr. for 4 runs only for Red Lake to answer with a couple of their own in their half of the 1st frame. Red Lake scored 3 more in the 2nd to Subway’s one to make it 5-5 after two. Both teams traded runs throughout the game which left both teams exhausted with the scored tied 12-12 entering the final inning. In the end, lack of experience and fatigue set in for the young Red Lake team with Subway scoring six in the top half of the inning making the final score 18-12.

Red Lake was led by Robert Beaulieu III who went 3 for 3, with 3 runs and Tom May, Jr., who was a homerun short of the cycle by going 3 for 4, with 4 RBIs. Rekoe Graves supplied some stellar defense and scored 3 runs of his own in his RLYB debut.

For those interested in participating (players and volunteer coaches), practice will be Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday at 4pm with games on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Red Lake Chemical Health Programs provided transportation.
