Memorial Day Observance - May 30, 2011

21 Gun Salute Red Lake Seven Clans Casino Great Golden Eagle

Memorial Day will be observed on Monday, May 30, 2011 beginning at 10:00 am.

The 30th day of May, each year, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, wreaths and otherwise, decorating the graves of those who died in defense of this country as well as those veterans who have passed on to be with the Great Spirit in the Spirit World, and, whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet church yards and private and family burial grounds. No protocol is prescribed for the ceremony and will be presented with much respect, in our own way, that we feel is a fitting service for all the brave men and women, past and present.

The Red Lake Veterans' Color and Honor Guard, along with the Three Star Warriors Society, will render the traditional 21-Gun Salute at the Red Lake Seven Clans Casino Hotel and Events Center by the Great Golden Eagle. The Color and Honor Guard will not travel to cemetaries and family grave yards on the reservation as has been done in the past. Grave flags and markers will be handed out to families who desire them at the casino. The flags and markers will also be distributed in Ponemah in the afternoon.

In the event of inclement weather festivities will take place in the Events Center with exception of the 21-Gun Salute.
