Alan Oliver

Alan “Baby Al” Charles Richard Oliver, Mashkawiziibing (Strong River), age 41 of Red Lake, MN, died Friday, May 13, 2011 at home. Alan was named after the Apollo 12 Mission Astronauts Alan Bean, Charles Conrad, Jr., and Richard F. Gordon, Jr. in 1969 by his father.

A wake will begin at noon, Tuesday, May 17th, at the Red Lake Center and will continue until the funeral services at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Thursday May 19th, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Father Jerry Rogers officiating. Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake.

Alan was born on November 14th, 1969 to Raymond E. Oliver, Sr. and Joyce (Cobenais) (Oliver) Roy in Red Lake, MN. He lived in Red Lake most of his life. Over a period of 10 years, he lived in Wisconsin, Utah, and completed high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Al worked for Bemidji Black Top where he was permanently injured while operating road equipment. He was an avid Viking fan and carried his “horn” with him to relatives and friends homes to watch the Vikings play. He treasured his Vikings ring, and said they would one day win the Super Bowl! He enjoyed wood carving and made numerous wooden plaques, often personalizing them with names and/or clans. He also made picnic tables for adults and kids. He loved to cook and was known for his specialty potato salad and homemade pizza. Al loved playing bingo and joking with the bingo callers and workers at the Palace. Alan had a great sense of humor, often giving friends and family unique nicknames. Al and Kristie became very close and were inseparable. They took many pictures of each other during their short time together. He has a devoted and loyal dog named Skippy that he called my “boy”. Al was a cool singer – he could sing just about any song as he knew all the words to so many. His mother had many compliments about his kind heart and smile. Baby Al was especially noted by family for helping his mother.

He is survived by his Mother: Joyce Roy of Red Lake Grandmother: Mae Audrey Cobenais of Red Lake Fiancé: Kristie Lussier of Red Lake Siblings: Barbara Jean Oliver of Burlington VT, Raymond E Oliver, JR (Connie) of Redby, MN, Dana Oliver of Red Lake MN, Julia Oliver (Ed) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, April Oliver of Red Lake, MN, Chris Roy (Brandie) of Red Lake, MN, Terry Roy of Kyle, SD, Allen Lee Roy of Germany, Gerald Roy JR of Kyle, SD, Loneé Roy (Jeff) of Las Vegas, NV.

He is preceded in death by: father, Raymond E. Oliver, Sr., brother, Joseph Cooper Oliver, maternal grandfather; Steve Cobenais, paternal grandparents; Reed and Julia Stillday, and aunt Rose Kingbird.

Active Pallbearers will be Chris Roy, Doak Cobenais, Dana Oliver, Luke Hanson, Raymond E Oliver, Jr., Jesse Smith, Terry Roy, Jeff Oliver, Allen Lee Roy, Marshall Stillday, Charles Goodwin, Shane Plummer and Dave Cobenais.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Misty Oliver, Derrick Oliver, Julie Smith, Raymond Oliver, Joy Oliver, Ashley Oliver, Lori Hanson, Kimberly Oliver-Auginash, Paula Oliver, Steve Cobenais, Madelyn Cobenais, Karisa Oliver, Travis Stillday, Randi Oliver, Toni Stillday, Tracy Stillday and Audrey Oliver.
