Red Lakers take first in Women's Backup Singing Contest at GON Pow Wow

This past weekend at the Gathering of Nations Pow-wow in Albuquerque, NM., the Women's Backup Singing Contest was won by Midnite Express. The singers are Athena Cloud (Ponemah) and Lilia Kingbird (Wahpeton). They are both

enrolled members of Red Lake Nation and are 14 years old.

Midnight Express also placed 2nd in the Northern Drum Contest, and Eyabay won consulation.

Other winners from Minnesota included Jessie Yazzie, 1st in Junior Boys Fancy Dance; Amber Buffalo took first in Women's Northern Traditional Buckskin; and Tanksi Clairmont took first in Women's Fancy Shawl.
