Preliminary numbers from Elections Canada for Winnipeg Centre show nearly 61 per cent of voters cast a ballot in Monday's federal election. That's a 26 per cent increase over the 2011 federal election voter participation rate of 48.2 per cent. Indigenous Rock the Vote is claiming some of the credit for that increase. EVERETT — It was supposed to be a nice family gathering at the Tulalip home Friday evening. The group included a 64-year-old man, his wife of 42 years, their two grown sons and a family friend. Genetic research suggests the arrival of permanent trading posts in Arctic Quebec meant more than easier access to flour and metal cookware for Inuit families. A newly published paper from McGill University concludes that's how tuberculosis was introduced into the region as well. Minneapolis is conducting its first in-depth study of Native American heritage sites after it received two grants from the National Park Service. The nearly $35,000 in funding will allow Minneapolis to designate and survey sites associated with commonly underrepresented groups, like the city’s Native American, African American and Jewish communities. State and tribal biologists reached an agreement on how many pounds of walleye can be harvested by Mille Lacs Lake anglers over the winter season, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said in a release. At a meeting Oct. 15, DNR and tribal biologists agreed to set the winter harvest cap for state anglers at 5,000 pounds or less, the release said. GREAT FALLS - A man suspected of sexually assaulting a child in South Dakota has been captured in Montana. MTN News has received several reports stating that Frank Ray Gallardo was found hiding in a house in Glacier County.
