As a part-time nurse at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Megan Murphy has twice been forced to take a leave from work this summer while waiting to get tested for COVID-19. On both occasions, Murphy had good reason to believe she’d been exposed to the virus and stayed home, as required by hospital policies, to limit spread of the disease. Each time, it took four to five days to line up an appointment and get the results. Both tests came back negative. But a snafu delayed the results of Murphy’s first test and left her without eno...

Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday he was taken completely out of context - and without his permission - in a campaign ad for President Trump lauding the U.S. response to the pandemic. "I can't imagine that ... anybody could be doing more," Fauci is shown saying in the 30-second ad, with the ellipses inserted in a caption to the video, just at the point where there appears to be a split-second break. According to CNN, Fauci's quote came out of a Fox News interview conducted in March in which he...
WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump on Sunday declared he was ready to return to the campaign trail despite unanswered questions about his health on the eve of a Florida rally meant to kick off the stretch run before Election Day. His impending return comes after the White House doctor said he was no longer at risk of transmitting the coronavirus but did not say explicitly whether Trump had tested negative for it. The president insisted he was now "immune" from the virus, a claim that was...
SEATTLE - The Vikings' first two quarters on Sunday night in Seattle were a fiery display of defensive mastery that put them in position to knock off one of the NFC's two remaining undefeated teams. That lead dissolved in a third quarter full of turnovers, penalties and a concerning injury to their star running back. Then, the game abruptly turned again, as the Vikings dominated the fourth quarter and were on the verge of a stunning victory. https://www.startribune.com/seahaw...
Taking attendance was once as easy as glancing across a classroom and noting which desks were empty. But that was in a pre-pandemic school year. Now, for many metro-area students, showing up to class means logging into a school-provided iPad. In Anoka-Hennepin schools, teachers host a daily video call to take roll of students in remote learning. Rather than counting desks, they count the faces on the screen. "We were really faced with disrupting what were longstanding attendance practices and...

BEMIDJI -- While the governor has given relatively clear guidelines for learning models based on case numbers per 10,000, the decision to switch learning models in public schools is not as cut and dry as it might seem, according to Bemidji Area Schools Superintendent Tim Lutz. Lutz said he hopes to clarify the decision-making process for area residents. In the past few days, Lutz said he has received a number of questions and concerns from area families as to why the school has not yet switched learning models, as the current Beltrami County...
