WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Everybody survived a plane's crash landing in a Pacific lagoon Friday morning, with boats helping rescue more than 40 people from the half-submerged aircraft in the Micronesia archipelago. RALEIGH, N.C. — The death toll from Hurricane Florence has increased again, nearly two weeks after the eye of the storm reached the Carolinas. BEMIDJI -- A Redby man was sentenced Thursday to 30 years in prison for second-degree murder. Gary Wayne Jackson, 26, punched his 23-month-old son to death last January, according to his guilty plea and documents filed in court. He pleaded guilty in June and was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Judge Ann Montgomery in District Court in Bemidji.
