A large set of federal loans will help a northwestern Minnesota Indian tribe deal with the opioid epidemic, as well as infrastructure needs. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Community Facilities program approved nearly $13 million to fund four projects at Red Lake. On Saturday, September 10, 2016, the Red Lake Tribal Council sponsored a "Gathering with the Youth" Event at the Red Lake Pow Wow Grounds area. This event provided backpacks for pre-school to 12th grade students, and there were numerous games with cash prizes to winners, along with a cookout meal for all participants.
