    A planned “fish-off” on Lake Bemidji was cut short today after the Department of Natural Resources intervened. A group called the 1855 Treaty Authority had planned the Fish-Off for the day before the Minnesota State fishing opener as a demonstration to exercise treaty rights. Two men headed out onto Lake Bemidji and placed a fishing net in the water. The net was then confiscated by the DNR and the men were issued citations.     A motorist who struck and killed a Wayzata police officer as he removed debris from a highway last September has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison. Fifty-four-year-old Beth Freeman of Mound pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular homicide in the death of 47-year-old officer Bill Mathews and was sentenced to 98 months on Friday. PAUL – The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA) approved a $28.9 million loan to the city of Minneapolis to rehabilitate and make other improvements at its water filter plant in Fridley. The loan from the PFA’s Drinking Water Revolving Fund will support a $74.5 million overhaul of the plant, which provides drinking water to Minneapolis and several surrounding communities.
