For months, most employers relied on information campaigns, bonuses and other incentives to encourage their workforces to get the COVID-19 shot. Now, a growing number are imposing rules to make it more onerous for employees to refuse, from outright mandates to requiring the unvaccinated to undergo regular testing. Among employers getting tougher are the federal government, the state governments of California and New York, tech...
An uptick in weekly COVID-19 vaccinations in Minnesota has state health officials hopeful that people are heeding warnings about the latest variant-fueled wave of the infectious disease and getting more children lined up for shots before the start of the school year. While people in high-risk locations for coronavirus transmission should "double down" by wearing masks per new federal guidelines and taking other precautions, state Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm said they aren't alternatives for...

The U.S. on Monday finally reached President Joe Biden's goal of getting at least one COVID-19 shot into 70% of American adults -- a month late and amid a fierce surge by the delta variant that is swamping hospitals and leading to new mask rules and mandatory vaccinations around the country. In a major retreat in the Deep South, Louisiana ordered nearly everyone, vaccinated or not, to wear masks again in all indoor public settings, including schools and colleges. And other cities and states...

GOP senators cautioned that they need time to digest the massive bill. Formally called the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the proposal clocked in at some 2,700 pages after a hurry-up-and-wait rare weekend session. The final product,...

Last Tuesday, dozens of American Indians from Michigan tribes gathered on the shores of the Straits of Mackinac to see the "Red Road to DC" totem pole. It was the last official stop on its cross-country journey from the Lummi Nation, based in Bellingham, Wash. to Washington, D.C. The totem pole was delayed Tuesday morning as it made its way across Michigan's Upper Peninsula en route to Mackinaw City, Mich. from Minnesota. Seeing the crowd and no totem pole in sight, people arriving wanted to...

Efforts by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce to “declaw” climate-related updates to the state’s environmental review processes were sharply criticized today by a coalition of environmental groups as yet another example of the chamber’s attempts to kill common-sense climate solutions in the state.
