ST. PAUL, Minn. —Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom (CCHF) is issuing a warning to Americans about heavy-handed pandemic enforcement and recommending people think twice about testing and choosing to participate in contact tracing. On July 16, a couple from Kentucky made national news when they were forcibly placed under house arrest after one of them tested ‘positive’ for the coronavirus. According to news reports, Elizabeth Linscott decided to get tested before traveling to see her elderly parents, even though she showed no active...

Major League Baseball launched its 2020 season Thursday. Unlike the NBA, which plans to resume play this week within a single-site “bubble” environment in an Orlando, Florida, athletic complex, MLB chose to play games somewhat normally, with players living at home and traveling back and forth to different cities to compete in (empty) major league stadiums. This approach is not working. From an ESPN report about the Miami Marlins: Miami just completed a series in Philadelphia, and seven more players and two coaches with the Marlins tested...

The Office of the Legislative Auditor today released a report criticizing the Public Utilities Commission for serious failings in ensuring that Minnesotans can participate fully in hearings and decisions. MN350's response: "Today's report shows what Line 3 opponents have been saying all along," MN350 organizer Andy Pearson said. "The commission really dropped the ball on providing a fair chance for the public's concerns to be heard. Bad processes lead to bad outcomes. Some of the recommendations from the auditor's report are literally for the...
The Nashville, Tenn., schools made the decision this month to stick to full-time remote learning when the 2020-21 school year begins. In Bennington, Neb., the school district is planning to open schools for all students five days a week. And the New York City public school district is designing a hybrid model in which students would be in school a few days a week and learning remotely the other days. Deciding among those three options can be an excruciating decision for school officials. They all have their benefits and drawbacks, and...
For newborns, the advantages of being fed breastmilk stay with them for a lifetime. Health professionals say breastfeeding has benefits for infants and mothers and is a key strategy to improve public health. Programs and services within the Chickasaw Nation have been developed to promote the benefits of this healthy practice. Two major proponents of breastfeeding within the Chickasaw Nation are the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, and women’s clinic and obstetrical department. Both provide education and peer counselors to new and...
It's a story many will unfortunately recognize. It's told in many sad and angry country songs and depicted in many films. First anger, resentment and verbal abuse set the simmering tone for an unhealthy relationship. Then, alcohol is poured on the flames causing tempers to flare and self control to disappear. Drunk partners lash out at their family members, causing severe emotional and physical hurt. Although domestic abuse is not directly caused by alcohol abuse, it can certainly be fueled by...

Around Thanksgiving 2019, two months after Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order that banned sales of flavored vaping products in New York, Taobi Silva thought he'd give the vape business another shot. Rob Ermolovich, the owner of a shop called Fluid Vapor and a local e-liquid manufacturing business, had given Silva a call, asking if he'd be interested in some kind of partnership. Silva and Ermolovich knew what was coming, as did many in the industry. Consumers, shop owners and...
