The Invitational is made up of 16 teams from across the State who also had 1 loss in their Regionals, so the competition will be real good! It will be held in Maple Grove this Saturday. Senators have voted to pass the federal government's bill legalizing recreational marijuana by a vote of 52-29, with two abstentions, paving the way for a fully legal cannabis market within eight to 12 weeks. "I'm feeling just great," said Sen. Tony Dean, who sponsored the bill in the Senate. "We've just witnessed a historic vote for Canada. The end of 90 years of prohibition. Transformative social policy, I think. A brave move on the part of the government." http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/senate-passes-government-pot-bill-...

  • Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Chairman Faron Jackson: The Band Opposes Pipelines on Our Reservation

    Jun 21, 2018

Recently there has been a lot of misinformation surrounding Tribal interests regarding the Line 3 Public Utilities Commission (PUC) process. “Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe” and “Tribal interests” are being used interchangeably to fit different agendas. I would like to set the record straight with our Tribe’s position on the pipeline replacement proposals currently under consideration by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. Leech Lake Reservation is our homeland. The waters and the food provided by the land are the reason our people are here...

  • Native Americans' right to vote is under attack

    Jun 21, 2018

TUBA CITY, ARIZONA — Growing up on the sprawling Navajo Nation land in the northeast corner of Arizona, Darrell Marks remembers telling people how to find the two-bedroom home he shared with his mother and five siblings. It’s the “brown house five miles south of the trading post,” he’d explain. Marks’ childhood home in Tonalea doesn’t have an official postal address, like many homes across the nation’s largest Native American reservation. Outside the populated towns like Flagstaff and Page, the landscape is dotted with more cacti than home...

  • Supreme Court poised to take action on some major Indian law petitions

    Jun 21, 2018

The U.S. Supreme Court is almost finished with its current term, one in which Indian Country fared surprisingly well. Of the three cases decided since last October, two were complete victories for tribal interests, even if one came about by unusual means. And while the third matter wasn't completely resolved, the court helped advance the ball by addressing a lingering sovereignty issue. https://www.indianz.com/News/2018/06/18/supreme-court-poised-to-take-action-on-s.asp...

  • In reversal, Trump orders halt to his family separation rule

    Jun 21, 2018

WASHINGTON — Bowing to pressure from anxious allies, President Donald Trump abruptly reversed himself Wednesday and signed an executive order halting his administration's policy of separating children from their parents when they are detained illegally crossing the U.S. border. It was a dramatic turnaround for Trump, who has been insisting, wrongly, that his administration had no choice but to separate families apprehended at the border because of federal law and a court decision. http://www.startribune.com/president-trump-s...
