    The superintendent for a California school district has apologized and removed a song from its elementary school curriculum in response to the objections of a fourth-grade student, and member of Wukchumni tribe, who found the song’s lyrics offensive to Native Americans, Native News Online reports.     YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Yakima mother Kai Martinez was accused of starving and abusing her young twin daughters. This was after they had been taken away from her right after birth, only to be returned by a court order just a year ago. Martinez was in court Wednesday for her sentencing where she apologized for her actions. "As a mother, I was entrusted to be loving, caring and nurturing unconditionally," Martinez said.   • Youth charged with 2nd degree murder in Kathleen Leary death

    A youth known to Katheen Leary has been charged in the death of the 66-year-old grandmother. The youth was arrested at the scene but police won't release the age or gender of the suspect.     A 27-year-old woman who told authorities she took heroin earlier in the morning ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed and crashed into a telephone pole in the school zone near the Saginaw Chippewa Academy elementary school Thursday morning.   • Missing Pond Inlet man walks safely into Repulse Bay

    Brian Koonoo, a 36-year-old man from Pond Inlet, Nunavut, walked safely into Repulse Bay Wednesday morning after four days of air and ground searches were unable to locate him. Koonoo, who works for Parks Canada, originally set out on snowmobile from Pond Inlet on May 10.
