  • Minnesota motorcycle fatalities at highest point in 20 years

    ST. PAUL--The 2015 motorcycle riding season is off to a deadly start, with 11 motorcyclist fatalities reported this year across the state, reports the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. The number of fatal motorcycle crashes reported so far this year is the highest at this point in the riding season since 1994. Most recently, four motorcyclists have died in four days, between May 2 and 5, according to a news release from the Department of Public Safety.     A man was shot early Sunday in south Minneapolis, his body left in the street. The shooting occurred shortly before 2 a.m. near W. Lake Street and Pillsbury Avenue S., according to police.     CHEYENNE RIVER INDIAN RESERVATION, SD - The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is the first tribe in South Dakota to ban smoking in indoor public spaces. The Smoke-Free Air Act bans smoking cigarettes inside restaurants, workplaces, and tribal offices. The act also requires that cigarette smoke be kept at least 50 feet away from building entrances.     PIERRE, South Dakota — A Chicago man accused by federal authorities of repeatedly violating an order banning him from entering the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota has been sentenced to one year in prison. Acting U.S. Attorney Randolph Seiler says 44-year-old Steven Nichols was also ordered to spend one year on supervised release and to not re-enter the lands of Todd County and the reservation.
