Minnesota has one of the lowest foreclosure rates in the nation, according to CoreLogic’s National Foreclosure Report. The state’s foreclosure inventory rate, which represents the number of homes at some stage in the foreclosure process, was just 0.4 percent in February. Minnesota was tied with several other states for the second-lowest rate, including Arizona, Colorado and Utah. A Shawnee man who pleaded guilty to embezzling from an Indian tribe apologized Wednesday before an Oklahoma City federal judge ordered him to pay back $181,763 in restitution. "I am sorry. MUSKOGEE -A Durant woman was sentenced to federal prison for embezzling more than a half a million dollars over a six-year period from the Choctaw Nation, The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma said Wednesday. Forty-five-year-old Carma Lynn Elliott was sentenced to 18 months in prison followed by 36 months of supervised release for embezzling from an Indian tribal organization. WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate Indian Affairs Committee has issued a subpoena to force the Environmental Protection Agency to testify at a field hearing on a Colorado mine spill that fouled rivers in the West last summer. Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming and Democrat Jon Tester of Montana approved the subpoena on Wednesday. DILKON, Ariz. (AP) — A former Navajo Nation lawmaker who pleaded guilty to misusing tribal funds has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to pay $6,000 in restitution. Young Jeff Tom Sr. was sentenced Wednesday. A member of the St. Regis Mohawk Indian tribe is accused of illegally transporting untaxed cigarettes to a Seneca Nation distributor. Ian Tarbell, 43, was arrested in the Town of Pembroke in February after a search of his U-Haul truck by Genesee County Sheriff’s deputies resulted in the seizure of 900,000 unpackaged cigarettes. Tarbell’s case was moved from state court to federal court, where he appeared Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Voters with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs rejected proposed amendments to their tribal Constitution on Tuesday. All 15 of the proposed amendments failed in the secretarial election. Some amendments would have changed the organization of tribal leadership, including how council members are elected and paid. WINNEBAGO, Nebraska | A proposed change to Winnebago tribal enrollment could shift the future makeup of the northeast Nebraska tribe. The tribe's current blood quantum law, or required minimum of Native American ancestry, calls for enrolled members to be at least one-fourth Indian. HELENA, Mont. (AP) — An appeals court has upheld the prison sentence of a former Chippewa Cree tribal chairman. Bruce Sunchild was sentenced last year to 34 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to theft, accepting a bribe and income tax evasion. LOWELL (CBS) — Police said a Lowell man they claim took off with a baby before the Department of Children and Families could take custody of her is cooperating with officers looking for the child. Police said Calvin Sulzle, 24, is not under arrest or facing any charges after he was found getting off a flight at Logan Airport around 9:50 a.m. Wednesday morning.
