The heaviest wave of snow in this week's storm began sweeping across Minnesota Wednesday afternoon, a slowly building storm that was still expected to bring double-digit snowfall totals to much of the state before it's done. While the storm had brought less snow than expected, the National Weather Service's message for Wednesday through Thursday morning was to stay home until the second wave ends. "Alter your travel plans, and stay inside tonight," meteorologist Ryan Dunleavy with the NWS in...

He arrived more than six hours before his scheduled 4:15 p.m. departure on a Sun Country flight to Las Vegas, and his home in Nevada. "It's OK. I have some Gatorade," he said, with a shrug. https://www.startribune.com/travelers-at-minneapolis-st-paul-airport-try-to-beat-the-snowstorm/600253633/...

Unauthorized immigrants would be able to obtain driver's licenses under legislation on its way to Gov. Tim Walz, a priority of Democrats at the State Capitol who say it will make Minnesota safer. The legislation, known by its supporters as "Driver's Licenses For All," lets immigrants get the license without showing proof of legal residence. The state Senate passed the bill on a party-line vote of 34 to 31 early Wednesday morning, and Walz has vowed to sign it. Eighteen other states and...

A past COVID-19 infection offers "durable," temporary protection against getting severely sick with the coronavirus - no matter the variant, a new study has found. Although natural immunity against COVID-19 offers protections, the findings don't discourage vaccination, which is still the top method of preventing serious illness, experts involved in the research say. University of Washington researchers are calling their study published Feb. 16 in the peer-reviewed journal the Lancet the most...
