    RED LAKE -- A man arrested in Red Lake for heroin possession was sentenced to more than a year in prison Monday in Beltrami County District Court. Christopher Erving Peoples, 33, was arrested Oct. 3 after law enforcement located him in the basement of a residence on Highway 1 in Red Lake during execution of a search warrant. Peoples was in possession of a digital scale, paraphernalia and a micro bag of a brown substance. Peoples entered a guilty plea to felony fifth-degree possession of heroin in December....

    CASS LAKE -- A Cass Lake man originally facing eight counts of criminal vehicular homicide was sentenced Thursday in Cass County Court to more than six years in prison. Michael James Stangel, 28, was arrested in May after he was involved in a crash that killed two people north of Palace Casino in Cass Lake. Stangel had a blood-alcohol content of .33 percent when his vehicle crossed the center line of County Road 75 and struck a Cass Lake couple's vehicle head on....
