The family of a man who went missing over a year ago has launched a campaign to raise awareness for missing and murdered indigenous men. Colten Pratt went missing on Nov.7 of 2014. He was 26 years old at the time. OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) — The Muscogee (Creek) Nation has inaugurated a new elected principal chief and other recently elected tribal officials. New Principal Chief James Floyd was sworn in Saturday during the ceremony in Okmulgee with Second Chief Louis Hicks, who was re-elected during the Sept. 19 tribal general election. FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A Navajo Nation judge was found guilty of abusing his office and could face up to six months in jail after prosecutors said he interfered in a burglary investigation involving his relatives. The late December conviction of Roy Tso Jr. came months after a bench trial in tribal court. PHOENIX — A man was sentenced to life in prison Monday for his conviction in the shooting death of a tribal police officer during a late-night traffic stop on the outskirts of Phoenix. Elijah Loren Arthur received the sentence in the May 2014 killing of Officer Jair Cabrera of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community at a gas station. ST. PAUL (KMSP) - During the renovation at the State Capitol, some of the paintings currently hanging on the walls may be replaced. The reason is some of the paintings have been deemed offensive and historically inaccurate. A special subcommittee will be making preliminary recommendations by the end of the month to decide what to do with the paintings. An armed group is occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, a federal facility that was initially promised to the Burns Paiute Tribe of Oregon. The Federal Transit Administration announced in December $10 million in transportation grants for American Indian and Alaska Native tribal governments, including three in Minnesota. The grants, awarded through the FTA’s Tribal Transit Program, will provide funds to 55 tribes in 18 states. Of those, Minnesota tribes were awarded more than $585,000.
