  • 2-Year-Quest: Midwest Deep-Woods Giant

    Clayton Roberts Sr|Jan 3, 2012

Posted On: December 29, 2011 Hey there Mike, (Mike Hanback), how are ya? Well, I’ve got some pretty exciting news. You had a blog last year with trail camera pictures I was getting of some giants. The drop-tine buck still hasn’t shown back up, but the big non-typical (Gray Ghost) had still been using the ridge I hunt quite often. He was on his downfall, but still one heck of a deer. Sunday the 13th of November I was in my climber. Wind was perfect, it was cold with an overcast sky. A per...

  • Year in Review: Unsettled year is marked by local events

    Steve Wagner, Bemidji Pioneer|Jan 3, 2012

Call it the year of unrest. The Bemidji area was marked by protests, a growing footprint of the nation’s largest rural hospital network and the changing landscape of the city’s south shore as 2011 came to a close. Recently, there has been media coverage of the State of South Dakota taking Native American children out of their homes. This breaks up families already facing atrocious social conditions. However, the initial National Public Radio series and subsequent coverage do not anchor their story, first and foremost, in the experiences of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota children. Instead, elaborate federal funding schema, sinister state social workers, and victimized Indian adults are used to paint a familiar story about the Indigenous in South Dakota,...
