    THIEF RIVER FALLS – Top-seeded Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and No. 2 Mahnomen will battle for the East Sub-Section 8A boys basketball championship 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Ralph Engelstad Arena here.     BEMIDJI – The Sub-Section East 8A boys basketball playoffs began Monday with play-in games at Laporte, Blackduck and Cass Lake-Bena. The tournament scene will shift to Bemidji Thursday for the quarterfinals and those winners will head to the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls for Saturday’s sub-section semifinal and the final on March 12.     THIEF RIVER FALLS – Fosston neutralized Red Lake’s fast-moving offense Saturday and ended the Warriors’ season with a 67-46 victory in the East Sub-Section 8A girls semifinals at the Ralph Engelstad Arena.     CLEARBROOK – The Section 8A girls basketball playoffs begin Tuesday and in the East sub-section Clearbrook-Gonvick will be the favorite. The Bears took a 21-2 overall record into Tuesday’s game at Win-E-Mac and are 15-0 against section teams. The Section 8 rankings are determined by the final QRF figures and Clearbrook-Gonvick owns an 84.0 QRF.
