BRAINERD - Wednesday's itinerary for the Bemidji VFW baseball team began in the morning with a light workout. In the afternoon the coaches and players headed to Brainerd where they will spend the next few days playing in the state VFW tournament. KELLIHER -- Neighborhood rivals Kelliher-Northome and Blackduck battled to the bitter end in both games of a doubleheader last week and the result was a split. The Mustangs rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim the opener 7-6 but Blackduck returned the favor in the nightcap, plating a pair in the game's last at-bat to take the rematch 17-16. SOFTBALL: Blackduck now 7-0 Blackduck's softball team continued its winning ways last week when it defeated CL-B 22-11 and 19-5. Those wins upped Blackduck's record to 7-0. The Drakes will begin a homestand today against Littlefork-Big Falls. On Friday they will entertain Deer River and on Monday they will welcome Deer River. BEMIDJI -- It has not been a kind spring to the area high school baseball teams as cold and wet weather has kept the squads off the field for much of the season. There was a definite chill in the air again on Monday but the Blackduck and Fosston teams couldn't wait any longer to begin their campaigns. MINNEAPOLIS - In 1997 the Red Lake boys basketball team ignited a run that saw the Warriors advance to the state tournament five times in a seven-year span. Among the players on the 1997 squad was Delwyn Holthusen, a tall center who dominated the paint both offensively and defensively.
