The Red Lake Nation flag was raised at Bemidji City Hall on Wednesday to commemorate the birthday of Roger Jourdain, the first Red Lake tribal chairman. In 2011, then-Bemidji Mayor Dave Larson signed a proclamation stating every year on July 27 would be Roger Jourdain Day in Bemidji. BEMIDJI -- U.S. Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills is in the Bemidji area through Thursday. Mills, who won the 10,000 meters in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic games, considered to be one of the greatest Olympic upsets of all time, will be holding various public appearances and also will be visiting area schools.
