Qualifications: Teaching experience. Master's Degree in Curriculum/Education preferred. Experience related to curriculum development design and implementation. Experience with School improvement initiatives desirable.

Position Overview (Basic Purpose of Position): Responsible for the development of curriculum frameworks that will serve as the foundation for the district's provision of a guaranteed and viable curriculum district wide. This position will also serve as the primary contact for the curriculum component of district's learning management system to ensure programs maximize the educational experience for every student. As a teacher leader, the curriculum coordinator will work closely with content area teachers as a coach to provide the direction and support needed to develop and implement the curriculum frameworks aligned to the Minnesota Standards; including data analysis, knowledge of research-based strategies, continuous improvement processes, program evaluations, best-practices in professional development and the use of both formative and summative assessments.

CURRICULUM AND STANDARDS

1. Lead teachers in the design and implementation of curriculum frameworks aligned to standards.

2. Provide tools and support to teachers to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum.

3. Oversee the use and development of the District's learning management system.

4. Work with the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) to evaluate curriculum course offerings, PK-12; provide assistance in the preparation/coordination, planning and implementation of district curriculum and new educational programs, help to resolve conflicts and assures smooth and logical progression in all subject matter areas.

5. Call meetings of professional staff involved in the development of refinement of district curriculum and guide them in the resolution of curriculum problems.

6. Monitor the curriculum planning/ articulation cycle and work with appropriate committees to generate the annual system accountability report.

1. Knowledge and skill in designing rigorous, engaging, differentiated units of study, aligned to standards that include components such as pre- post-assessments, analysis of data, research-based strategies, and authentic student products.

2. Ability to determine teachers' needs for support and subsequently access appropriate resources/tools to support professional learning.

3. Lead efforts loading curriculum, instruction and assessment unit plan resources into the District's learning management system in collaboration with the teachers, administrators, and technology coordinator.

4. Coordinate the flow of curriculum information to the ILT and assist the principals in disseminating this information to their building staff.

Evidence will include:

• Comprehensive Standards-aligned Curriculum Frameworks and associated tools and resources

• Guaranteed and viable curriculum district-wide

• Fully implemented learning management system

• Ensure that the established curriculum/articulation cycle is followed

• Adopt curriculum resources on time and according to Board Policy

• Completion of required MDE reports as assigned.

COACHING AND TEACHER LEADERSHIP

1. Provide leadership for the implementation of PLTs.

2. Engage in coaching conversations with teachers to support the implementation of the curriculum framework.

3. Model the use of researched-based strategies for licensed staff.

1. Assist teachers in engaging in authentic PLTs that foster reflection and inform teacher practice; are driven by data to differentiate instruction and improve student outcomes; and result in improved achievement.

2. Provide support to teachers through professional coaching conversations to build their capacity to create and implement the curriculum framework.

3. Collaborate with teachers to demonstrate how to effectively apply researched-based strategies in the classroom.

Evidence will include

• Agenda's and meeting notes from PLTs.

• Protocols from coaching conversations

• Draft framework documents, samples of student work, and other data.

• Lesson plans, practice profiles, and other resources on research-based strategies.

USE OF DATA

1. Collect, analyze, and synthesize data relative to student achievement, implementation, and licensed staff needs.

2. Interpret formative and summative data, communicate results, problem-solve and collaboratively make decisions that impact instructional practices and student learning.

2. Ability to interpret formative and summative data collaboration with teachers and administrators; communicate results in various formats to multiple audiences; engage problem-solving activities with professional staff; and utilize protocols and process to make decisions regarding the data that positively impact instructional practices and student achievement.

Evidence will include:

• Data processing and problem-solving protocols, implementation and communication plans, student data, teacher surveys and other evidence of implementation and student impact.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

1. Plan and facilitate professional training for teachers and administrators.

2. Remain current with research and best practices.

3. Conduct a continuous evaluation of the progress and quality of the staff development program. Report findings and results to the superintendent and school board on a regular basis.

1. Facilitate professional training for building staff, departments, and/or grade levels to build skills in the effective implementation of the curriculum framework.

2. Engage in professional readings, trainings, workshops to stay abreast of best practices relative to curriculum, staff development, and evaluation.

Evidence will include:

• Meeting and workshop agendas, notes or facilitation plans.

• Professional journals and staff development resources and materials.

• Documentation in the School Board Minutes.

• PD scheduled and reviewed by staff.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY SUPERINTENDENT

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or styles. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematics: Ability to apply, interpret, and use advanced professional training (i.e. graduate level preparation and training in research methodology, economics, business and marketing analysis, engineering, etc.).

Human Relations: High degree of skill in developing, motivating, and fostering collaborative relationships both inside and outside of the organization. Interactions are frequently with representatives, elected officials, or managers of other agency's or organizations and the position has the authority and responsibility for representing the organization and speaking on behalf of the organizations.

Information Technology: Demonstrates and models personal productivity skills such as: electronic communication: online searches of electronic databases; and effective use of presentation, budget, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

Physical Requirements: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision.
