BP: Enbridge offers alternative route options across northern Minnesota

ST. PAUL—Enbridge Energy officials said they were open to alternative routes for the company's proposed oil pipeline through Minnesota during the fourth day of hearings with the state Public Utilities Commission in St. Paul on Wednesday.

As recently as Tuesday, the Calgary-based company refused to consider any deviation from its preferred route — a 340-mile path from the North Dakota border across Minnesota to the Wisconsin border. On that route, the pipeline would travel farther south than the existing Line 3 and avoid Native American reservations. The company first needs a certificate of need and route permit from the PUC. A vote on the matter is expected this week.
