An excessive-heat warning for the Twin Cities metro area was set to expire at 7 p.m. Sunday night, but the evening’s cooldown was arriving with thunderstorms, some of which were expected to carry heavy rain and large hail, and the possibility of flash floods and tornadoes.
A tornado watch for the metro was to remain in place till 9 p.m. Sunday, and a flash-flood watch has been declared through 7 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen.
