JOB TITLE: Specialist Teacher

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB PURPOSE: The Red Lake School District is accepting applications for an elementary school Specialist Teacher position for the 2018-2019 school year. This position will serve Grades 1-5 students with classroom instruction in one of the following instructional areas: Ojibwe Culture and Language; General Music; General Art.

This Specialist Teacher will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will have the desire to work cooperatively with other faculty members to build a dynamic course of study. This Specialist Teacher will demonstrate preparation and commitment to working with diverse communities of learners; skill in providing for the individual learning needs of students; ability to create a positive, inclusive learning environment; a high level of expertise in area of expertise and familiarity with current teaching/learning theories; willingness to work with extracurricular activities; and skill in establishing and maintaining positive relationships with diverse groups of students, parents, and colleagues. Computer skills highly preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Specialist shall:

1. Have a minimum of a bachelor's degree with a licensure in Elementary or Middle School,

2. Have completed a licensure program,

3. Demonstrate knowledge of the foundations of processes and instruction,

4. Demonstrate ability to use a wide variety of instructional practices, approaches, methods, and curriculum materials to support instruction,

5. Demonstrate ability to use a variety of assessments and practices to plan and evaluate effective instruction,

6. Demonstrate ability and experience instructing in small and large group learning configurations.

7. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills,

8. Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement effective teaching strategies and interventions,

9. Demonstrate knowledge about Red Lake Nation culture and community,

10. Fulfill requirements for mandatory background check,

11. Have good moral character and a strong work ethic.

Essential Duties:

1. Teach in assigned specialist area, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities.

2. Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction.

3. Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.

4. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.

5. Collaborates with administration, teachers, and special education staff to identify, plan, participate in and implement professional development activities and determine follow-up as needed.

6. Evaluate student's academic and personal growth keeping appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide instruction for students,

2. Facilitate co-teaching, modeling lessons and coaching around assessment practices and data use to inform instruction through data discussions in Professional Learning Teams (PLT's) and grade level teams to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

3. Assist the Principal in supporting PLT's and grade level teams.

3. Three letters of reference from education professionals

4. Employment interview.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:

The Specialist shall be employed under: Teachers' Master Agreement
