Red Lake School District #38 is accepting applications for the following position:

Position Title: Grade 6-8 Re-Direction Room Teacher

Supervisor: Principal

Building: Assigned to Red Lake Secondary Complex for the 2018-2019 School Year

Bargaining Group: Teachers

Terms: Per Teachers' Master Agreement

Qualifications: Current Minnesota Secondary Teaching Licensure, Demonstrated knowledge, experience and application of Developmental Design for Student, Mindfulness, De-escalation Language, Conflict Resolution and Mediation Strategies including Bully Proofing Your School (BPYS).Experience demonstrated in the use of Synergy student discipline incident entries, excellent writing and verbal communications skills with parents and guardians. Knowledge and application of #38 District Code of Consequences.

Position Overview: Responsible for overseeing Re-Direction Room, coordinating with Dean of Students/ Principal on student discipline referrals.

Communicate with guardians regarding Re-Direction Room outcomes.

REGULAR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee the supervision and discipline of students in Redirection Room.

Support student learning through tutoring of students in Redirection Room

Support individual behavioral and academic interventions coordinated with classroom and SPED staff.

• Provide disciplinary support to students who have been referred to the Re-Direction Room or others who exhibit inappropriate behaviors; applying the Code of Consequences.

• De-escalate student incidents following Developmental Design Techniques including mediation, conflict resolution, collaboration with involved staff and parent communication.

• Operation and Management of the Re-Direction Room.

• Possess math and reading teaching experience to tutor individual and small groups of students in grades 6-8 for students assigned to Redirection Room.

• Serves as In-School Suspension Instructor for students who receive this consequence according to the RLSD Code of Consequences

• Collaborate with school staff, parents and families to strengthen relationships and address student disciplinary issues

• Support efforts to improve student conduct building wide.

• Have knowledge of and apply Bully Proofing Your School techniques addressing student conflict issues.

• Have successful experience in creating and finishing behavioral and academic interventions that may lead to Special Education Assessment.

• Keeps up to date on behavioral reports into Synergy on a daily basis, assuring that all behavioral reports are recorded into Synergy and reports mailed to parent/guardians day of incident

• Assists office staff with up to date demographic information on parent contacts in Synergy

• May assist Home Liaison(s) and Dean with home visits or completing SPED documentation with guardians.

• Evidence the Code of Conduct is being applied

• Maintain current documentation of student discipline reports for both for parent communication and recording of behavioral incidents

• Evidence relationships with parents and students relative to discipline have improved

• Successfully tutor individual and small groups of students in reading and math benchmark skills according to pre and post student data

• Reduction in the number of student discipline referrals

• Maintain communication with families to resolve discipline issues through Synergy Contact Log

• Evidence of coordination with staff to input discipline incidents into Synergy, editing/correction existing entries and producing reports

• Active member of student support teams that create and work through individual interventions coordinated with SPED staff.

Other Duties as Assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Stand, walk, bend over, kneel, crouch, reach, overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift, and/or carry up to 30 lbs. to should height.

2. Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping).

3. Stand, sit, and/or walk for extended periods of time.

4. Demonstrates normal depth perception.

5. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard or typewriter, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone.

6. See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without visual aids.
