Daphna Russell, Sculptor, Presents:

Bemidji Sculpture Walk Tour

Daphna Russell actively teaches sculpture and art appreciation in Colorado. She believes the making and the appreciation of art contributes immensely to the function of the human being. It teaches stories and lessons; it increases our mental capacity and it opens our awareness to the world around us. Daphna will do a walking tour of some of this year’s Bemidji Sculpture Walk new sculptures and provide her insight into the pieces being displayed.

"Passage of Time"

Inspirations, Processes, Techniques

Sung-Hee Min came to the US from South Korea in 1996 and studied sculpture at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She has works in galleries in San Francisco, Southern CA, and Seoul, Korea. Growing up on a small farm she appreciated the labor and time required from planting to harvest and revisits the experience in her studio when fabricating small metal plates together into units that grow into a larger piece.

May 19, 2018 Bemidji Sculpture Walk Installation Events

9 AM - 2 PM: Installation of 20 new sculptures will be happening throughout downtown Bemidji. In addition to the classic sculptures which are installed each spring, our new fiberglass series which invited 2-D artists to embellish dog fiberglass forms and entitled “ How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?” will make its premiere. The public is invited to view this yearly event as it unfolds and be the first to see the new sculptures! Stop by the sculpture drop off point: 2nd Street NW and Paul Bunyan Drive; the parking lot by St. Michel Furniture or drive around and find the artists and installers throughout downtown Bemidji.

1 PM - 2 PM: Daphna Russell, Colorado Sculptor and Instructor of Art, will conduct a downtown tour of some of this year’s sculptures emphasizing how sculptures teach stories and lessons and increase our mental capacity and awareness of the world around us. Tour will start at Headwaters Music and Arts, 519 Minnesota Ave NW, Bemidji.

2 PM - 3 PM: Sung-Hee Min, Sculptor, with works in San Francisco, Southern CA and Seoul Korea will present lecture: “Passage of Time”. While living abroad, she taught art to children. Now returning to art making after 10 years, she will share the challenges faced along with supports and encouragement received. Headwaters Music and Arts, 519 Minnesota Ave NW, Bemidji.

5 PM - 7 PM: Reception honoring this year’s Sculpture Walk Artists along with the 2018 Dog Series Artists will be held at Northwest Minnesota Foundation, 201 3rd St NW, Bemidji. Light refreshments will be served. Come meet the artists and hear their stories!
