Position Overview: Responsible for contributing to improved student achievement and realization of the school and district vision by providing counseling and guidance services to students, parents and staff of the Red Lake School District. The Licensed School Social Worker provides proactive guidance and referral services to students, parents, and staff, based on requirements established by school division policies, procedures, and protocols, and by local, state and national regulations and statues.

Daily Responsibilities

• Proactively communicates to staff, specific student and family issues that may impact the classroom setting.

• Responsible for identifying students who require special school services;

• Serving on child-study and/or support teams; providing appropriate services for students with identified needs and acting as a resource and advocate for parents and staff.

• Responsible to maintain confidential records

• Responsible for referrals to outside student appropriate agencies.

• Responsible for organizing and scheduling collaborative (wrap around) services if needed.

• Conduct individual and/or small group counseling sessions, which will allow students to examine situations or concerns within a confidential setting.

• Consult with teachers, parents and other outside agencies, when appropriate, to help facilitate an organized plan to best help the student with their needs.

• Coordinate the guidance program through providing resources and referral services for teachers and parents.

• Coordinate the conflict management program and Safe and Drug Free Grant Program.

• Develop and maintain a public information program relating to student and parent responsibilities, needs, and activities.

• Employee is responsible to be knowledgeable about all district policy

• Monitors student/patient mental conditions.

• Identify enrolled students who have disclosed that they are pregnant.

• Provide appropriate contact information to students for private and community resources.

• Must hold appropriate current Minnesota school social worker licensure

• Assess emergency situations and act accordingly.

• Good oral and written communication skills;

• Basic computer skills.

• Willing attitude to be a part of the school team; strong sense of professionalism.

• Understanding of confidentiality.

• Highly organized.

• Motivated, positive attitude.

• Participate in ongoing professional and staff development, both independently and through system-offered opportunities.

• Ability to facilitate responsible decision making practices when assessing students.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Requires standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, simple grasping, pushing pulling, fine motor and gross motor skills, bending, lifting, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and reaching.

• Ability to lift students as required and has the stamina to stand all day, every day of the week as needed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Possession of a valid driver's license

• Possession of a Minnesota School Social Worker License.

• Student mental conditions were identified efficiently.

• IHCP's and 504 plans were completed properly and in a timely manner.

• All child abuse and neglect suspected cases were reported.

• Pregnant students were identified.

• Contact information for resources available were provided and accessible.

Recordkeeping

• Notify parents when further medical evaluation is indicated.

• Prepare and maintain student records and prepare required reports.

• Assist in the development of Individual Health Care Plans and 504 Plans for students on a case by case basis.

• Follow procedures for suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.

• Act as a liaison between the school, home, and other community agencies.
