Republican Richard Painter dislikes Donald Trump so much he's running as a Democrat for U.S. Senate

Richard Painter, a former longtime Republican, is so fed up with President Donald Trump “and all his collaborators” that he’s running for the U.S. Senate as a Minnesota Democrat, he announced Monday. Painter is seeking the seat held by Sen. Tina Smith.

“I’m out of the Republican Party. I’m fed up,” he said, referring to the lack of opposition to Trump, against whom he directed much of his ire during a morning news conference. “I don’t hate Donald Trump. … I do hate what he’s doing to the nation.”
