For first time, checking accounts offered on Pine Ridge

KYLE, S.D. (KOTA TV) - For the first time in the 129-year history of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation residents can open a checking account there.

Before the Lakota Federal Credit Union opened its doors in Kyle in 2012, Pine Ridge residents had no bank on their reservation. In February the credit union began offering checking accounts. Two hundred and fifty people opened one in the first two weeks.
