Temporary lane closure on Irvine Avenue Bridge in downtown Bemidji scheduled for April 18-19

Emergency responders to conduct bridge rescue training

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Motorists in Bemidji will experience a lane closure on the Irvine Avenue Bridge at Third Street NW on April 18-19 to allow emergency responders to conduct bridge rescue training.

Motorists can expect short delays at the bridge as portable, temporary signals control traffic by allowing only one direction of traffic at a time. Motorists can avoid the lane closure by detouring onto Park Avenue SW.

As part of the bridge rescue training, emergency responders will perform High Angle Rescue training by repelling off the bridge and out of a MnDOT snooper basket. A MnDOT snooper truck is a specialty vehicle normally used for bridge inspections. It features a multi-jointed arm and basket which allows crew members to maneuver under and around the bridge deck.
