Beltrami County Investigation and pursuit ends in single vehicle fatality

Beltrami County Deputies investigate assault with a knife. Incident ends in a single vehicle crash during a pursuit with the suspect. The suspect and lone occupant/driver died from injuries sustained in the crash.

ECKLES TOWNSHIP-On Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at approximately 10:04 PM the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office was called to the 5600 block of Alps Court NW in Eckles Township in Beltrami County, (Eckles Township borders the City of Bemidji to the west) after receiving a call of a male subject being assaulted with a knife during a domestic situation. The victim, 25 YOA, Raymond E. Oliver of Red lake, MN, fled the scene of the assault to a neighbor's residence, who called 911 and rendered aid to the injuries Oliver had received. He was able to identify his assailant as Traci J. Cloud, 24 YOA, of Bemidji, MN. While Deputies were responding to the scene, information was received that Cloud was outside the neighbor's residence in her vehicle.

As Deputies arrived on scene they immediately located the suspect vehicle and signaled for the vehicle to stop. The driver fled at a high rate of speed, across neighboring yards, to the roadway where a pursuit was initiated that traveled from the Alps Court location, northbound on Trunk Highway 89.

During the pursuit, the driver, later identified as Traci J. Cloud, left the roadway, over corrected, and lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle overturned. Cloud was the lone occupant of the vehicle. Deputies, along with Red Lake Police Officers, and Minnesota State Patrol Troopers immediately began rendering aid. Bemidji and Red Lake Ambulances arrived on scene and determined that Cloud was deceased.

Oliver was transported to the Sanford Emergency Department for the treatment of his injuries. His current medical status is unknown.

This incident is pending further investigation by the, Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota State Patrol and the Beltrami County Coroner's Office.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol, Bemidji Police Department, Red Lake Police Department, Bemidji Ambulance, Red Lake Ambulance, North Air-Care Ambulance, Bemidji Fire Department and Alaska Fire Department.
