Darren Harvey Benais, Sr., age 54, of Cass Lake, Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on Wednesday, March 15, 2018 in Walker, MN. He was born in Red Lake, MN on June 17, 1963 to Grace Nass and Max Thomas of Roseau River, Manitoba, Canada.

Most of his life, Darren lived in Cass Lake, MN. He loved playing his guitars and listening to music. Darren enjoyed drawing and visiting with his family and friends. He was the kind of guy that could always put a smile on everyone's face. Darren liked to tell stories and playing cards. He cherished his family and loved his kids and grandkids very much. He was traditional in his ways, always burning sage and putting tobacco out.

Family he joins in the spirit world are his father, Max Thomas, grandson; Darren Benais III, brother; Delvis Benais, Sr., niece; Ashley Needham, mother of his children; Dawn Murray, many aunts and uncles.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are the love of his life; Mary Briseno "Lovey", his sons; Brandon (Vydell) Murray, Sr. of Cass Lake, Darren Benais, Jr. and Douglas Benais both of Red Lake, his daughters; Sondra Femat of Onigum and Tammy (Mark) Benais of Minneapolis, mother; Grace (Wayne) Nass of Halstad, brothers; Virgil (Bernie) Benais, Gene Barrett, Jr. and Frank Barrett III, sisters; Leeann Barrett and Sheila Cournoyer, grandchildren; Julie Sue, Mariah, Deelayna, Brandon Jr., Brandee, LeRoy, Savannah, A.J., Shyanna, Ricky Jr., Xavier and Brooks, step-children and step-grandchildren that he had with Lovey, other relatives and many friends.

A wake for Darren will begin at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, March 18th and continue until his traditional service at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 20th all being held at the Little Rock Community Center in Red Lake, MN. Pallbearers for Darren are Frank Barrett III, Gene Barrett, Jr., Brandon Murray, Sr., Francis "Tyke" Kangas, Ricky Jackson, Sr. and Curtis LaRoque. His honorary pallbearers are Sondra Femat, Douglas Benais, Darren Benais, Jr., Tammy Benais, Mary "Lovey" Briseno, Darnell May, Greg Johns, Leon Neadeau, Tony Strong, The Bohn Boys, all his grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, his nieces and nephews and all his friends. Interment will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery following his Tuesday service.
