Will open Section 8A tournament play on Thursday, March 1st at home against Blackduck

Northwoods Conference Championship Game – Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 64 vs. Red Lake 70

The Red Lake Warriors won the first ever Northwoods Conference championship game over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley at Clearbrook-Gonvick High School on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams met once during the regular season with Red Lake winning at home on December 7th 67-40.

The game on Saturday was much closer with Walker-Hackensack-Akeley leading at halftime 32-30.

The Warriors started the second half by scoring the first six points and went on a 19-5 run to help secure the game.

The Wolves received stong play from their guards as sophomores Bri Raddatz and Justine Day combined to score 33 points. Raddatz led Walker-Hackensack-Akeley with 21 points as the Wolves fall to 22-5 overall.

Freshman Emma Deegen had a big afternnon for the Wolves by scoring 17 points and connecting on 3 three pointers.

Autumn Holthusen hit five three pointers and led the Warriors with 19 points as Red Lake improved to 24-3 and picked up their ninth straight win.

The Warriors received strong bench play as they battled foul problems throughout the day.

Marlene Blue came off the Warrior bench to score 3 points and pull down 5 rebounds. Angel McClain scored 15 points and Gerika Kingbird 14 for the Warriors as they open Section 8A tournament play on Thursday, March 1st at home against either Blackduck or Goodridge/Grygla.

Walker-Hackensack-Akeley will open up post-season play in Section 5A with a home game on Thursday, March 1st.
